LIVE REVIEW: TV Death + Rothco

Cluny 2 held host to another astonishing display as Newcastle was treated to a performance from local lads TV Death.

TV Death have been steadily rising in the recent years and have exploded this summer. Playing in Great Escape Festival, Featuring in a show with BBC Introducing, and even finding time to release a new album “Neon Dreamland”. So what better than a homecoming gig at Cluny 2 to top off such a run.

Joining in Support was Hull based outfit Rothco, for a performance that was an absolute livewire; embodying swagger, class, while maintaining a cutting edge to it all. An unexpected treat to any who hadn’t heard of them prior.

Even the word comfortable still doesn’t seem to suit, the stage is clearly a second home to them. This stands especially true for frontman Joshie Ingham, who just glides instinctually and with such purpose. Raising the energy and the performance to even higher heights.

The influence from the likes of Talking Heads and Joy Division is evident but takes a whole other direction, for a sound that is both entirely refreshing but vaguely familiar. Providing an act that, even with no significant introduction, is entirely enjoyable to witness.

TV Death are a band who clearly want to give everything and then some when they perform on stage. For a group as they are, a hometown show was also going to make that more apparent and true, more than it could be anywhere else.

They are filled to the brim with charisma, charm, and full on enthusiasm for the art of live performance. Taking each and every note in their stride. Their sheer class is something even the fuzzy locks of lead vocalist/guitarist Jack Burlison could not endeavour to hide.

They were an unrelentingly force from start to finish, drawing energy from the crowd before firing it straight back at them. A raw and unadulterated Show, but still showcasing the clear, evident, yet diverse musical ability of each and every member.

TV Death are fastly becoming one of the most talked about in the north east scene, with this performance just a testament to why that is so, and demonstrates just what they can go on to achieve.
