Rae Charlea has released her new single I.H.H.G ( I Hate Her Guts) and the team had a listen ahead of time and here is what we thought:
Rae Charlea is a British/Australian singer/songwriter based in Liverpool, who affectionately describes her sound as ‘pixie dust infused rock’. In the past year she has already released 6 fresh singles such as ‘Blue Eyed Boy’ and ‘Father’, following those with the most recent release ‘I.H.H.G’.
The song is inspired by feelings of jealousy, stirred by the abundance of ‘trust fund kids’, within the modern indie music scene. More specifically the phenomenon of these individuals posing as ‘D.I.Y.’ musicians, despite significant financial backing, due to their backgrounds.
The theme, and therefore the song itself, is something that anyone who has ever tried to ‘make it’ in a facet of the music industry will relate to; an anthem against those who are simply handed things. Despite this powerful rhetoric, the track itself remains poignant without feeling overly embittered or negative.
The track is actually a very effective, catchy, and well written indie-pop track, with the fingerprints of a rock scattered across it. Giving it all the wider appeal, with that bit of soul and bite throughout: spreading itself neatly across a few different genres. In short it has a bit of something for everyone.
Rae is undoubtedly a talented song writer, with the ability to write with real punch and substance, without losing any musicality to her songs at all. She displays all the attributes of someone who, from what we’ve been shown thus far, is wholly capable of a very successful career in this medium.
